Kingston is the oldest city in the province of Ontario. It is steeped in early Canadian history when it was originally founded as a trading post. In the late 1600's, Kingston was named Fort Cataraqui. The English won the land from the French in 1758 and renamed it once again to Fort Frontenac. In the middle 1800's, Queen Victoria renamed the fort to its current name, Kingston.
Today Kingston is still a thriving community and is known as a world renown educational centre thanks to the installation of Queen's University, St. Lawrence College and the Royal Military College.
